This is my grandmother who is 85 years of age. As of 18 years ago, she was a survivor of breast cancer. 18 years later, as of December 29th, 2011, she will be going into two surgeries because the cancer came back. She told me in the car one day on the way from her house to mine for a family Christmas celebration that this would be her last Christmas. I was devastated. I almost teared at the wheel thinking about my grandmother passing away.
A couple of days ago, she already knew she had cancer in one of her breasts. After she went back to the doctors, she was told she has lymph nodes in both breasts. She will be in the hospital for about three days up unto New Year’s Eve. Every year she watches the New Year’s ball in New York drop. This year will be the first time she won’t be able to see it because she will be in the hospital because of her surgery.
Lymph nodes is an oval-shaped organ of the immune system, distributed widely throughout the body including the armpit and stomach/gut and linked by lymphatic vessels. Lymph nodes are garrisons of B, T, and other immune cells. Lymph nodes are found all through the body, and act as filters or traps for foreign particles. They are important in the proper functioning of the immune system. They are packed tightly with the white blood cells called lymphocytes and macrophages.
I hate seeing my grandmother cry. She is scared she won’t make it. I honestly had no idea what to say to her. I wanted to say “it’s going to be alright” but I knew better that not everything goes right as the way we want it to be. I hope you take the time to like/reblog this because I am also scared for her and I do believe this might be her last Christmas.  Just yesterday my grandmother and I visited the cemetery to visit other family members who have already passed. She showed me where her future headstone will be and I fell to my knees and cried. She has done everything for me and more. I love you grandma (Po Po).
The thing I want to tell all of you is that family should always come first and you should not take them for granted. Love your family. Spend time with them as much as you can because before you know it, they may not be there anymore.
